    Strange but true...

These are nostalgic public statements made by "dead" IT Companies.  Collected a few that made me laughed....while waiting for Nightline on TV3.

    1. "There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home." -Ken Olsen, 1977 (hahahahhahhahah!)
    2. "If this Microsoft Windows thing doesn't pan out, the Poqet will rule the world... -PC Magazine
    3. "A computer will not make a good manager out of a bad manager. It makes a good manager better faster and a bad manager worse faster." -Ed Esber, president, Ashton-Tate, 1986
    4. Two good reasons for not going public: "We don't have to tell everybody our mistakes, and we can make decisions quickly." -Pete Peterson, president, WordPerfect Corp., 1992

    22 May 2008.

Keep this date close to heart. Indy Jones is blazing through the cinemas once again for the very final time. Filming of this latest Indiana Jone's installment is currently ongoing at a location in Hawaii.

It has been 18 years since we last saw "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". Obviously, Harrison Ford who plays Indiana Jones is now 65 years old. The first Indy movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark" played on the silver screen in 1981 and I was fortunate enough to catch it then.

After more than 18 years, the final installment will see Ford playing this role once again with the regular lineups with the exclusion of Sean Connery who has decided to opt out from the movie because of retirement.

Nevertheless, my kids will see this final installment and enjoy the Indy Jone' movies just like what I saw 18 years ago.

Hawaii will see most of its scene being featured in this new movie. Gosh - I just can't wait for it to hit the movie screens.

    What a blast..

Times have changed so much. You can now have 1000 songs in an MP3 device. But beware! Don't even try using it during a thunderstorm especially when you are using those devices while running in the open area with wet condititons. The lightning does not distringuish a conductor from another. Why? Read on.

Freak accident? I guess we all should take note of such occurance. Whether it's  a simple MP3 device, it kills when you use it during a bad thunderstorm! So folks - beware!

    Have you seen this before?

This is something new and I guess it's good to share with all of you. There is this new product that allows you to track the location of an IP address down to the Latitude and Longtitude as well as the map of the location. Cool isn't it? What more can one think of more from here?

Check it out ya? Somehow, when you get an email from a friend and he or she claims they are in Malaysia, think again :) or an email from an unknown stranger ---- you can now track that mail down to its exact location.

    YAHOOM?

Rumors are flying! Microsoft has been reported to have asked Yahoo to enter into a formal negotation for a possible acquisition. This could spell a new frontier of competition between Google and Yahoo. Seriously, nothing is concrete or certain. However, the possibilities are there. A YAHOO + Microsoft would spell a new direction and competition in the internet arena worth more than USD 50 Billion!

Just have to say how it will develop from here. Google - watch your back if this does happen!

    Back to the future ....

Today marks the 15th anniversary of my usage of the Internet. Still remembered the day when I logged in via my new PC (Packard Bell) in my dormitory room in 1992. This was the day which I sent out my first email to a friend in Malaysia who was studying at NUS; used the IRC to talk to folks at USM and NUS and saw the first website that made me proud to call myself Malaysian (www.jaring.my)

I think it's a little nostalgic to see how far Internet has come of age today. I am sure Malaysians are stil complaining as to how slow broadband is like but trust me, the first usage of internet in Malaysia was running on 9.6 K bps modem and eventually 56K modem...

Today, WIFI remains an exciting development for the Internet with the Broadband providing good connectivity as compared to 1994. I am proud to be one of the pioneers on the internet when it was launched in Malaysia. MAL of Jaring is still around; Dinesh Nair who was famous for hacking into AsiaConnect; the birth of many other businesses on the internet remains the best milestones that have shaped Malaysia's internet arena.

You better watch..you better not shout..

Google boss warns politicians about Internet power

LONDON (Reuters) - Imagine being able to check instantly whether or not statements made by politicians were correct. That is the sort of service Google Inc. boss Eric Schmidt believes the Internet will offer within five years.

Politicians have yet to appreciate the impact of the online world, which will also affect the outcome of elections, Schmidt said in an interview with the Financial Times published on Wednesday.

He predicted that "truth predictor" software would, within five years, "hold politicians to account." People would be able to use programmes to check seemingly factual statements against historical data to see to see if they were correct.

"One of my messages to them (politicians) is to think about having every one of your voters online all the time, then inputting 'is this true or false.' We (at Google) are not in charge of truth but we might be able to give a probability," he told the newspaper.

Dear Santa ---- can I have one of these?

    Dear Santa,

Christmas is just 3 months away. Can I have one of these units? Live from Microsoft, the screen is wide; the unit is WIFI enabled; comes preloaded with music and best of all - it's from Microsoft.

Enjoy your weekend Santa. Do make my wish come true :)

    Vista babe!

Weekend! Well..Microsoft Canada evidently "accidentally" released the latest pricing of Microsoft Operating System - Vista. Somehow, it brings some joy to at least to many to know that a newer release version of Vista is hitting the streets in a few month's time. Anyway, it's Sunday. Weather is warm and hopefully, next week, will be as warm and breezy compared to last.

Just to let everyone know - Cash Match is ongoing on Red FM! Try your luck - who knows ! You will never know ya? Tomorrow's jackpot is Rm2.5K.

    Cheers

    Picasa Web Album

Google makes me wanna oogle! Their enhancements on their suite of products continue to make me droll. Got a note via www.news.com that Google is launching their Picasa Web Album.

It's only for gmail users and guess what  - I went ahead to download it and look at the superb stuff that can be created

    Interesting days ahead

Yahoo and AOL has just announced that they will be charging users for ensuring paid users will not receive spam mails. Somehow, I sense that corporates will also be asked to pay royalty to ensure that corporate mails will reach users on a timely and not end up in the spam box.

I am taken aback as the very fundamental interest of the Internet is to provide convenience. Now we have stuffed up providers who have answers to give to their shareholders on how to grow profits for their company. I am giving this effort a thumbs down!

Anyway, it's getting hotter in Penang. Both kids are back in school and Neil is getting better. Luckily, we nipped his problem earlier than waiting for him to start coughing uncontrollably. At least his cough can be contained before it got worse.

Last nite, we went to Kek Lok Si. Darn ,  I didn't bring the camera...otherwise, it will be a feast for the eyes. No doubt about it. Will try to catch more of that scene.

I had a harrowing experience on Sunday when a FedEx delivery van was driven crazily. I lifted up my mobile and called the toll free number. Few days later, the FEDEx area manager called. I gave my concerns to him. I was driving my car with my entire family in it. I don't see why one idiot should endanger our lives when he should be reprimanded for his lousy driving.

Didn't mean to get him fired but he has a responsibility. If he can't do it on the road, then leave FEDEX.

Well - keep an eye out of this FEDEX van PEY 160 if you are in Penang.
