If you missed it, click on the linkSunday is usually a day of rest for me. Obviously, some of you wrote to me to find what actually happened at our apartment’s proposed roadwork. I guess for all good discussion’s purposes, the residents felt 3 weeks were just too long for them. Hence, they have asked the committee, which I am a part of it, to reconsider the duration and alternative means to have the work done. I guess Penang is notoriously known for this – BIG CHEAP AND GOOD attitude. Big – as in wanting things in big portions and to our advantage; CHEAP – squeezing the living daylights out of the contractor for everyone’s benefits and GOOD – quality must be first world class and nothing lesser.
It must be demoralizing for some of the non-committee members that came in to assist. But again, the wishes of the majority has clearly won the day and we as minorities must respect the wishes of the residents. Anyway, on a side note, Sunday is a day to absorb good articles. I could not resist mentioning this article that appeared in the Star. Clearly, the former IGP was fumming because of recent accusations that he is far less Muslim and he was attacked for taking a strong stand about corruption in this country of ours. Tsk tsk tsk. Same on these MPs. I guess sometimes they take a funny ground of saying things in the Parliament. After all, anything said in Parliament shelters them away from possible litigation. I guess MPs of today have lost their marbles. They need to rethink what is more important than to attack a private citizen. My 2 cents worth…really. I am sick and tired to hear of all this. Until today, we are not even sure if anyone will be made responsible after the revelation of the Auditor’s General Report. I guess we now know the outcome – talk , talk, talk….and continuous government gridlock. That is very very sad, really. It's a gloomy SaturdayScenes like this MUST not repeat again. It's the Malaysian government's social contract to upkeep peace and harmony in this country. It's disgusting and unforgiving. I hope they will catch the killer. It's time for the country to wake up from being engulfed by hideous crimes. Hahahahahha....he doesn't know at all...I was smirking away when I read this piece of news. Seriously, it shows how crazy an authoritian govt can get when it comes to the chain of government. I am sure you would agree with me on this. I am talking about the Killing Fields. It is one of my interest as I know many Khmer Rouge leaders in the past use the same old "stale (basi) tag line to get away. I am sure that many of you will never know the history behind this. Only the ones who have lost family members would agree with me that this is a lame excuse. Hence, good lessons to learn from all this. The worst authrocities in the world was never told until the wars are over. I am saddened...god bless the souls of those who perished in the Killing fields. NEWSFLASHLuciano Pavarotti has died, according to The Associated Press. How nice if .........How nice if Bill Clinton were to run again as the next VP of the US. I believe he may have not inhaled but I think he brings better views and directions to the US compared to the Bush Administration. Seems that his dearest actually commented this when asked by David Letterman whether Bill could serve as her VP. The former first lady shot down the idea as the U.S. Constituition forbids a U.S. President from holding office for a third time. By the way, I stand firm to say that Hillary will be the next President of the United States. A major PR Boo BOO in the making? What is more shocking to hear is that Monster.com could have lost millions of its users' data to hackers that broke into their site earlier this month. Apart from not handling the mishap well, this has led to a shocking revelation that Monster.com could have compromised much of their data to the hackers and leaving the details unannounced in a proper manner to the general users. I am sure Monster.com represents the major powerhouse of jobseekers' information in the US. Somehow, somewhere, this news continues to spiral out of context and surely causing more concerns for members who have their resumes.
I am sure many job boards may have information that is pertinent to users using their services. I am sure if you are a jobseeker, you must make sure that your information is not compromised by a hacker or sold to the highest bidder. Hence, in Asia, we have many job sites. Do make sure you have yours in a secured ones. Otherwise, your information could be floating somewhere in Russia or elsewhere and getting calls from unknown persons soliciting your support for products or services. You wouldn't want that to happen, would you?
So give as little information as possible. If a job board ask for your credit card information etc. that you think will cause you immediate financial risk, don't sign up. The business model for membership is free. Otherwise, ask them for a response as to whether they have any security policies to govern such hacking incidences.
Read what Monster's CEO has to say:
"I want to be clear and I want to be frank: there is no guaranteed fix," Iannuzzi said. "I wish I could say...there will be absolutely no way that the Monster site can be compromised. I cannot ever make that promise, and no Internet company can." Read more here
Funny isn't it?
Sadly, this is how Malaysian Parliment is remembering their national day..Divided and continue to harp on petty issues. Oh come on lar!
Penang is indeed a state of limited resources. We pride ourselves as being the first state in Malaysia to achieve Cybercity status under Malaysia's premier Multimedia Super Corridor. Without going into more details, I would rather speak about a piece of news that nearly made me fall off from my chair and laughing to death. Of course promoting a learning economy is a noble effort. I am sure that many will agree that such move will increase the value chain of Penang's economy. It's not confined to just the citizens of Penang but the overall Penang's economy. Just as Penang struggles to "reinvent" its identity, one needs to wonder how in the world it's going to do it when it has no constructive directions to even grasp the very need of the state. For one, there will be an event to promote "learning economy" in Penang in the month of October. Secondly, big names are invited to share knowlege as to how to integrate technology and innovation so that they can communicate innovation with the rest of the world. Somehow, something is missing. In order to drive for a more knowledged-based economy, the human capital element is necessary. I am quite surprised that learned campuses such as USM or even other private instituitions of higher learning are not mentioned. What is definitely missing is the real initiative to grow the state's potential to be the learning hub of the northern region. We have so many campuses. So many affliations with different esteem universities that our state leaders should have focused on. I am passionate about this subject because I see young students learning for the sake of passing their exams. Lack of practicality in applying what they have learned and obviously, Penangnites are losing to other countries in the world such as India and now Vietnam. Vocational or educational based learning system are well received everywhere. Nevertheless, such an event is a good place to attract more students to stay in Penang. Once the offerings are limited, they tend to leave Penang and head down to KL because they have more choices. However, this is just a perception. This is something the Penang State Government should focus on...........making Penang into a learning hub. If there is no supply, don't expect any output. Who says dogs can't dance...I have been following the great news of these 2 labradors which have made headlines over and over again for the past couple of months. Both "Lucky" and "Flo" have been trained to sniff chemicals used in making DVDs. Recently, there were loaned by the US Motion Picture Association to the Malaysian Government to fight DVD piracy. After all, the movie rogues or pirates are fumming right now. Both dogs have made a big dent into the so-called pirated DVD industry in Malaysia. Right now as I write, there is a bounty on both dogs' head. Strangely, I see them more of a catalyst to drive the industry of movies into greater heights. Seriously, the use of both dogs made a major dent in the industry. They struck fear whenever they appear in KL, Penang and Johore. I caught a glimpse of these two wonderful labradors when I bumped into their activties at One Stop! Kick ass labs! In addition, the Malaysian government is also planning to "copy exact" the abilities of both dogs by planning to set up a unit of K-9 to fight piracy. Anyway, I wish they will set up a unit of cats K-Cats to do similar crackdown on DVD pirates. Why can't cats be used??????? Therefore, this article is dedicated to both Lucky and Flo. May you both live long and prosper. Take no prisoners. Resistance is Fultile. ahhaaha... Lunar EclipseHowdy folks! Earlier this year, Malaysians may have wanted to see the lunar eclipse. It happened early in the morning then. We did try to wake up at 5 am to watch it but I guess it was the time when the moon was not clearly visible and we missed most part of it. This time round, the eclipse of the moon can again be viewed between 7.20 pm to 8.40 pm on August 28. So, lets mark our calendar and be ready to watch the natural phenomena that will happen again. I have this fascination watch both lunar the solar eclipse. I guess both my boys love to watch this. Good stuff for my boys to talk about - more of show and tell for them at school. More information, click here! Talking about recycling ....My letter was published in the Star. Guess it was appropriate as another article came out in the NST on Sunday about how government should incensitize the public when it comes to recycling. Nevertheless, I read from my good buddy's blog about the aftermath of the St.Anne's celebration at Bukit Mertajam. It's seriously a very bad sight. I bet the AllMighty would disagree with the tons of rubbish thrown at the surrounding areas of Bukit Mertajam. I strongly believe it should not be this way. We Malaysians must start to learn. Otherwise, we will face the consequences of a wasteful and irresponsible society. How shameful all this has been. I bet even St. Anne would have disapprove of this sort of debacle. Ladies and gentlemen - meet Oscar the CatCaught an interesting article just a min ago. Just could not resist not mentioning it but seriously, this cat has precise accuracy in predicting death. I am sure many cat lovers would agree that this cat is indeed a special cat. I guess that is how it's being known now - Oscar - the death predictor. Sounds like a scene from a scary movie? Well at the site of the cat in this article, Oscar looks like any other ordinary cat - cute and adorable. Strangely, the hospital alow Oscar to move around the hospital. When he decides to curl up next to a patient, times up for that person....gosh....his predictions have been measured - surprisingly....it is very accurate!
Kansas in Penang???????Somehow, these shots were taken from one of the local sites that profiled a potentially damaging tornado that could damage Penang. I am not sure if it has any strength to do so other than some minor damage on the island. Enjoy these shots! Keep your receipts ... when you park in PenangParking receipts? I am sure many of you had this experience finding your windscreen stuck with a piece of pink receipts or even green parking meter bill whenever it rains. Sure - do you bother to keep those? Keep it cos you will be shocked if you get a parking fine for not paying although you have done so... Caught this great article last week and wanted to share - keeping parking receipts for more than 4 months to avoid being fined is one of the most craziest thing I have ever heard. Trust me - it's really a shame that Penangnites have to endure this ... I am really sad...that after so many years, Penang Municipal Council continues to close an ear away from the wishes of the people. Give us something simple. If Ipoh or Seberang Jaya can start with a coupon method, why can't Penang? Really why can't we? Ladies and gentlemen .... lets welcome Gliese 581 CYes - Gliese 581 C- 20.5 light years away has been discovered and has the characteristics close to the one on our lovely planet Earth. This planet is 5 times bigger than the mass of Earth and is believed to be able to sustain life. WOW! I am excited.
Skeletons in the closet..literally!Skeletons Tumble Out Of House In West Bengal
KOLKATA, April 24 (Bernama) -- A skeleton smuggling racket was busted Monday in the state, with the recovery of at least 50 human skulls and broken bones during a raid by the police at a house in the Purbasthali area of Burdwan district (in West Bengal).
SCARY THOUGHTS! JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU HAVE A FEW SKELETONS IN YOUR CLOSET...AND NOW THIS - THE WHOLE HOUSE IS FILLED WITH SKELETONS! More foreign students in MalaysiaI can't help reading this in Bernama today. Somehow, it led me thinking about how important this effort will bring benefit to Malaysia. One of the critical importance of ensuring more foreign students come to Malaysia is the cost of education as well as the quality of education provided. Malaysia must start looking into this effort very seriously. Without proper screening process of potential students, we could be facing a serious "problem" where students come to Malaysia as a halfway point and embark into some activities that are considered unhealthy. I am all for this effort, but lets approach this catiously. Singapore does it well. Offering of scholarships within Spore allows good quality students to stay in their country and eventually contribute to the development there. Should we be doing the same? Interesting storyJefferson and Cornelius asked me why we have to pray at midnite of the 8th of Chinese New Year. Really didn't have an answer to start off with but today, I saw an interesting article that appeared in the STAR. Hope you will enjoy this article. The moral of the story is this - Hokkien people is grateful that sugar cane helped them to survive a major onslaught. Guess, we were lucky :) Malaysian Blog Survey
